Of Success and Sunny Days

(Your days will be filled with sunshine and happiness.)

As I write this, the day has turned from a grey, overcast March day to, although still chilly, the sun filtering in through my window in a cheerful and inspiring way. And so I crack open yet another fortune and chew over some thoughts.
Lately I've been thinking about how we all look at life. Maybe it has to do with my pending graduation. Maybe it has to do with my recent birthday. Or maybe, just maybe, it has something to do with the weather. Either way, I've been paying attention to what people have been saying and how they say it.
Exhibit A: Class is cancelled. Some celebrate and some are annoyed.
The ones who are annoyed see it as an inconvenience. They got out of bed, (possibly) got dressed, dragged their butt all the way to class only to find out that the teacher simply couldn't do the same. They pay all this money for someone not to show up? What the hell?! These are the people who see today as a sunny day. BUT it's still cold.
The happy ones aren't excited because now they can go get lunch with a friend or get started early on that project that would have otherwise been nagging at them throughout the class. They are excited because this is their disposition, their attitude. They see the glass "half full." (Full of what, well, that may be why they have such a good attitude.) After all, it IS sunny.

It seems to me that those who are successful in life are those with the "sunny" disposition, seizing everything that happens as an opportunity and not as an inconvenience. These are the people we read success stories about. They don't get where they are because of luck. They get places because they enjoy the sunny days.

And for those students who aren't happy about class being cancelled, well maybe they should switch glasses with the enthusiastic ones for a day.
